Soils,
Earthwork and Foundations: A Practical Approach - Textbook &
Workbook
Bridges the
Gap Between Technical Engineering & Design and Practical Foundation
Construction Techniques
Your Guide to Soils, Earthwork and Foundations
This book was conceived as a way to bridge the
gap between the sometimes highly theoretical and technically complex
world of geotechnical engineering and foundation design on one hand
and the ordinary construction activities of actually building
foundations and dealing with soil conditions on the other. The book
is directed to building code inspectors and others who are involved
in permit review and field operations with regard to constructing
foundations. References to the
2006 International Building Code and the
2006 International
Residential Code are provided where applicable.
This publication is intended to be a guide and
resource in regards to soils and foundations. It has sufficient
illustrations to provide a level of understanding of the principles
involved, and it has sufficient guidelines regarding when it is
important to call on professional help, such as a geotechnical
engineer or foundation design engineer.
The book is not intended to be a textbook for
engineering students, but it may serve as a broad introduction to
the subject.
A helpful workbook is also available. Purchase
both the textbook and the workbook and save.

A Great Study
Tool with over 300 Questions and Answers
The study sessions contain learning objectives
for each chapter and a list of statements and questions summarizing
the key points for study. In addition, test questions are given for
each chapter. Before beginning the test questions students should
thoroughly review the relevant chapter of Soils, Earthwork, and
Foundations, keeping the learning objectives and key points in mind.
In this workbook, every question is followed by a place for the
student's answer and the corresponding text reference from the book
itself. Answers to the questions are in the back of the workbook.
This workbook is intended to be a study guide
for building inspectors or others who wish to study Soils,
Earthwork, and Foundations in depth. The user should have available
the 2006 International Residential Code (IRC), the 2006
International Building Code (IBC), and a hand calculator.
